A Roman Military Road ( Via Militaris) was built in 1st century AD across the territory. Most of the settlements in the area belong to the Vinča cultural group, and are located on the western side of the South Morava river.Īfter the fall to the Romans this territory was included in the province Upper Moesia and after 293 AD it was in the Mediterranian province Dacia. The territory of the municipality of Aleksinac has been inhabited since the neolithic age. In standard Serbian, Aleksinac is pronounced with the stress on the first syllable, but locals tend to pronounce it with the stress on the second syllable. The name of the town ultimately derives from the given name Aleksandar.
